Week Ten - Oral Blog Portfolio Post Entry Seven Diploma Lecture 2

By Dave Griffiths (Unitec lecturer)
The lecture we had on Tuesday, 08 May 2007, was about helping Others which means First Aid. There are steps to do before helping someone. The first thing to do is STOP. This means before starting to help you have to think about your self and ask “am I safe?” The reasons for this is the person might have different kind of accidents such as electric shock, heart attack and might be Slept.
Then check if you have some Barriers like gloves and plastic bag. This is important because we do not know the person and might have some diseases and bleeding. Then move to the person and the first thing to do is tap in their shoulder. Communication is important, so you must communicate to the unconscious person and lift the chin up then look at the chest and listen if the person is breathing. If there is no breathing use CPR (Cardio Penumbrae Resuscitation).
Finally, check the person before you ring the Ambulance then call 111 which is for Ambulance.
