Week Ten - Oral Blog Portfolio Post Entry Seven Diploma Lecture 2

By Dave Griffiths (Unitec lecturer)
The lecture we had on Tuesday, 08 May 2007, was about helping Others which means First Aid. There are steps to do before helping someone. The first thing to do is STOP. This means before starting to help you have to think about your self and ask “am I safe?” The reasons for this is the person might have different kind of accidents such as electric shock, heart attack and might be Slept.
Then check if you have some Barriers like gloves and plastic bag. This is important because we do not know the person and might have some diseases and bleeding. Then move to the person and the first thing to do is tap in their shoulder. Communication is important, so you must communicate to the unconscious person and lift the chin up then look at the chest and listen if the person is breathing. If there is no breathing use CPR (Cardio Penumbrae Resuscitation).
Finally, check the person before you ring the Ambulance then call 111 which is for Ambulance.

Week Nine Oral Blog Entry Six - Picture Comparison 2 Draft Two

The two pictures are related to education and the first picture is about a per-school students are doing different activities in their classroom. The classroom is well organized, they have more educational materials, bright classroom and clean Environment. The students have more freedom and relax. Whereas, the second picture looks like primary school students are sitting in order and raising their hand to answer to their teacher. The number of students seams to be less than the first picture. The classroom is dark and crowded especially the way of sitting the students.

In my opinion both pictures are important in terms of education. For example, pre-school students are very young and they need more space I really like the way of teaching of the first picture because the classroom is big and students can do different activities what they want and relax.

About Me Draft Two

Mekelle Chamber

I am introducing myself and let you know some of my background. I am Tarik Haylu and I was born in Ethiopia, in East Africa. I grew up in Mekelle, the capital city of Tigray. All my family are living in Ethiopia, I missed them a lot. I am married and I have two lovely daughters who were born in Auckland.

When I completed high school, I studied a diploma in Computer Science for two years. After I graduated I came to New Zealand (NZ). Now I have been in NZ for four years and I like living here. When I first arrived in NZ I was surprised because I found it very green and peaceful and the people were friendly.

I have been enjoying studying at Unitec. The teachers I meet are very friendly and supportive. I spend a lot of time with my family. I enjoy computing, reading and listing to religious music’s and my favourite sport is basketball. I hope we‘ll have an enjoyable semester together.

Week Seven TextBlog Entry Five My Break ( Draft Two )

During the holiday break, as an Orthodox Church follower, on Good Friday I went to church and stayed the whole day without food and drink until 6 pm. During this time we were praying to our God. After that, from Saturday night till Sunday morning we stayed the whole night in the church. Many people from my Christian community were there and we were praying and singing religious songs. Easter is one of our biggest holidaies, for this reason we have to prepare many things such as food, drinks and so on. After the worship was finished, we had a ceremony in the church where we gathered together with foods and drink. By the way, before Easter we had been fasting for nearly two months, which means we did not eat dairy products. As a mum of two young children, I spent a lot of my break time with them. I had a good break with my children and my husband. I hope you had a wonderful time too.

Oral Blog Entry 5 Domeastic News Headlines

There were six front page stories I heard on Morning Report on National Radio on Monday April 30th.
* Two from the NZ Herald
* Two from the Dominion Post
* One from the Press
* One from the Otago Daily Times

The new drug trial offering hope to women with the history of miscarrages.
Three pronunciation features which I noticed are:-

Consonant to vowel linking: with the//

Extra linking sounds: /r/ eg. the history/ri/ of// miscarriages

Weak forms of prepositions, articles, modal verbs, auxiliary verbs:

The/∂/ new drug trail offering hope to/∂/ women with the/∂/ history of/∂/
